Do the Math: Engagement equals academic success
Description
As part of the IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute, a team from the University of Washington worked with high school teachers on revamping their math program, adapting a new interactive curriculum focused on problem-solving, and changing their methods of teaching. Using the new curriculum and teaching practices --including video review and group feedback sessions-- the program has seen an increase in the engagement level of the students, as well as a jump in the number of passing grades from 20% to 60%.This report includes a set of eight short video clips of an interview with Professor Ilana Horn who co-led the university team in the effort to assist high school math teachers in revamping their programs.
