"In a sunny school cafeteria in Saddle Brook on a recent morning, a noisy bunch of third-graders raced to build the best roller coaster - and unwittingly joined a multimillion-dollar statewide push to improve science education....
The urgent push to improve science teaching brought the roller-coaster project to Long Memorial Elementary School, which takes part in an $11.5 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation. The five-year grant pays for Stevens Institute of Technology faculty to show 400 teachers in 11 districts across New Jersey how to do a better job. "
